Rapid Fire Questions with Pro Rider Brayden Bringhurst

Derek Teel on February 7th, 2022

I had the amazing privilege to interview Brayden Bringhurst, and honestly, he is like a dream guest to interview for me. When I first saw Brayden, it was on a video called Transcend that launched a few years back and it left a huge impression on me. It was the first time I saw someone make climbing on a bike look so exciting. It was his originality that inspired me to just pursue anything and any style on the bike. It really has helped give me confidence in transitioning disciplines over the years.

Check out the rapid fire questions I asked him in our interview together below and be sure to tune into the full interview here.

Would you rather shred with the pros or chill with the regular riders?

All the above! I can learn something from everybody. I just like to be around people that are stoked to be on the bike and that are just good people. You could be the most average person on a bike and be somebody I can learn from about being a dad or about being a professional. At the same, I really like to be around people that are better than me. I can ask them, how do you do that? Teach me!

How do you feel about Bulgarian Split Squats? Do you love or hate them?

I absolutely love them. I think they are one of the best exercises for building strength on the bike.

How many chains do you go through?

Oh my gosh, I probably go through one a quarter – four chains a year.

Top top three music or bands that get you stoked?

Lately I've been listening to St. John and The Weekend, but I also love just good old Garth Brooks. I went to one of his concerts a few years back and it was one of the best days of my life. No joke!

Who has the best style in mountain biking?

I think style is more than just riding. I think it's how you handle yourself, go about your ways, and live your life. The person who has everything I value in a rider and who is the most stylistic is Ryan Howard. He has that surfer mentality, nothing is ever rushed or forced, and he’s just out there for the pure enjoyment of riding bikes.

What's your favorite trail-side snack?

I love a quick energy-packed bar. A good Larabar gets me feeling great.

What's the worst Trend in mountain biking?

I don't want to hate on anything or to rain on anyone's parade, but I don’t like when people are trying to get to the bottom of the trail as fast as possible. They try to go so fast that they're skipping jumps and skipping cool sections of trail. You'll have a sick jump, and people are going off to the sides, or you’ll have these corners you can't beat you and they straight line it just get a faster time. When your focus is on pure speed, you're just going to get some ugly riding.

Do you prefer a mullet or full 29er?

So I've yet to ride a mullet, and to be honest, I don't know if I really want to ride them.

I know they are great for descending and cornering, but I feel like I've figured out how to do both pretty well. Plus, 29ers just climb amazingly well, which is also very important to me.

All in all, I really like the the balanced 29er, and will stick with that.
